I was honoured to be commissioned by Fridays Coventry and the Stephen Lawrence Day Foundation to create an educational animated short film commemorating Stephen Lawrence for Stephen Lawrence Day 2021.

Though over 30 years have passed since his unjust murder, Stephen’s story still shines a light on issues of racism and institutional bias in policing that remain deeply relevant today. As a visual artist, I felt a responsibility to contribute to a project that could help educate younger generations, who may not know about Stephen’s courageous life and tragic death. This collaborative process reminded me that art can spark important dialogues about systemic inequities that still exist within our society.
